Over five years of Power Manager

The first edition of Power Manager was released in late 1999. Working on System 7.6 and above, Power Manager 1.0 unified the diverse control panels and extensions needed for energy saving on the pre-Mac OS X operating system.

A year later in March 2001 we released the second version of Power Manager. This was a major update and encapsulated our hard won knowledge about the intricacies of the Mac Cuda and, later, Power Management Unit (PMU) hardware.

Version two included a wealth of new features and two new scheduling methods. Apart from a couple of maintenance updates version two remained the most advanced edition of Power Manager available for the next four years.

Despite requests for Power Manager 2 to be ported to Mac OS X we quickly realised this would not benefit us or you with a worthy successor.

We made the tough decision to leave the countless features and options of Power Manager 2 behind in the world of Mac OS 9. The problems we solved then are very different to the new problems facing Mac users today.

The future beckons

Power Manager 3 begins the journey afresh with a new perspective on power management. Join us, give us feedback, and we promise not to disappoint.
