Cancelling and Delaying Events
Welcome to Power Manager. In this article I will guide you beyond our repeating getting started event. We will create an event that will begin in a few minutes. This will let you see the warning messages and learn how to delay pending events.
Creating a One-Off Event
We are going to create a non-repeating event to trigger a return to the Login Window. This will not affect any of your files or running applications.
Add an event by clicking the Add button. This will bring down a panel of options for your new event.
We need to change the default options presented.
Give your new event a name. For this example, type “Delay me!”
We want to create a Once event that triggers a Login Window switch. Use the first two menus to set these options.
- Action: Login Window
- When: Once
With the event's When set to Once, the final task before adding this event is to set the date and time.
You need to enter both a date and time for the new event to occur. This is easier than it looks. Power Manager is very flexible in the date and time format it accepts. Watch the grey text below the entry field as you type.
Enter today and the time now.
Did it work? Or did you notice the warning underneath the text? You can only create events that will occur in at least 2 minutes time.
Enter today and the time 3 minutes into the future. It is 3:17pm now, so I have entered today 3:20pm.
Finally, click Add.
Congratulations!
Congratulations on creating your first once only event. In a second or two your new schedule will be applied and your event will come to life.
Delaying your new event
If all has gone well, you now have a warning message on your screen.
Do not click! For now leave the warning counting down.
Dashboard Schedule
Take a look at the Power Manger Dashboard widget.
Close the Dashboard and click Delay. By clicking Delay you have altered Power Manager's Active Schedule.
Take another look at the Dashboard widget. What changed?
Notice the time of the next pending event. The time includes the delay you requested. Had you cancelled the event, the widget would be empty.
Power Manager Menu
The Power Manager Menu shows the pending events.
When an event falls within the notification period, Power Manager Menu counts down the remaining minutes.
The menu provides an easy easy way to delay or cancel any pending event.
Let the event perform
Having created a new event and delayed its action, you deserve a break.
Sit back and enjoy the next few minutes quietly. During your break you will see another warning message appear and then a final notice before the fast user switch/Login Window switch.
