my wireless mouse and keyboard (both from Apple) work well with my 17" PB. (using encrypted transmission)
One annoying difference is that my keyboard connects automatically after a few seconds when I switch it on.
This does not happen with the mouse.
This is most annoying when the computer goes to sleep.
I usually can connect the mouse by using Browse devices from the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar (hitting Browse, after a while it responds with device does not have necessary services, but the mouse works afterwards).

Is there anything I missed to do that automatically ie reconnecting the mouse?

I find that pressing on the mouse's on/off switch (which causes it to start flashing) almost always results in a reconnection.
