Does Apple Remote Desktop work when monitor is asleep?

  1. Does Apple Remote Desktop work when monitor is asleep? I set up a router and a Mac Mini at a location far from home. The Mini is running OSX 10.4 and ARD3 with VNC. While still at that location, I verified that the Mini accepted VNC connections from outside the router (I set up port forwarding on the router, of course, and VNC-ed into it from outside the router). Now that I'm back home I can no longer VNC into the Mac. It says "connection failed." The only thing I can think of is that on the Mini the energy saver feature turned off the monitor. Is there any chance that this would affect ARD or VNC?

    Thanks.

  3. ARD can work with the monitor in sleep. But if the computer goes to sleep ARD cannot access it except to wake it. But it can only do that on the local LAN. BTW, the default Energy saver setting is to sleep the computer shortly after the monitor.
