How to manuallly set display to sleep

  1. Hi all, as of the past week, my display will no longer go to sleep according to my settings in "Energy Saver". Right now I have it set to sleep in 1 minute - but the display always remains active. Is there a way to instantly set the display to sleep? I know how to set the computer to sleep by clicking on the apple icon, then sleep, but I would like to leave the harddrive running.

For instance, is there a way I can go to the consol/ternimal and type a command that would set the monitor/display to sleep?

    Thanks,
    Novice

  2. You might be able to do it with the pmset command (by setting the sleep timer to zero, or near-zero)... haven't tried though. Type 'man pmset' in the console for details.
