keys to instantly turn off a PowerMac 6500 witthout the normal shutdown

   I just recently had an odd happening in which a box of Kleenex fell from the top of the monitor to my 6500's keyboard while I was hitting some modifier keys. The computer instantly turned itself off, as if somebody pulled the plug, or hit that little round button on the back. I'm not sure what keys the box hit. I'm curious what key combination could do this. The 6500 has Mac OS 8.6 installed on it.

   Was it really Kleenex or just generic facial tissue paper? That could be the key.

   There is a keyboard command which basically has the same effect as pressing the reset button. I often tried to use it on my old iMac running Mac OS 8.1 when it locked up. Unfortunately it rarely worked since the part of the OS that looked for it was locked up too! I still curse the fool who decided to put the reset button on the early iMacs behind a small recessed hole, requiring a straightened paper clip to be kept on hand at all times.

   I can't remember what the shortcut was, but according to:

   command-option-shift-power
   Restarts or shuts down the computer (on some models). Unsaved work will be lost.
