Macbook Pro replacement battery

The battery on my MacBook Pro (15" 2.2ghz Santa Rosa) needs replacement.
Its capacity is less than half the original.
There's big price spread between
* the Apple store, Smalldog and BTI -- $120-130,
* what look like Apple-branded batteries at stores such as Amazon, about $85,
* batteries from sources that aren't Apple but are guaranteed Apple compatible, $60-80
* and even Apple branded batteries that apparently were on Apple's A1175 MacBook Pro recall list, but won't be replaced unless they were in the original computer.
Can anyone provide some guidance? I've bought non-Apple batteries before for earlier machines....BTI. It doesn't seem to have an aftermarket battery. OWC, Small Dog and Newer don't seem to carry them, which leads me to believe they aren't very well-regarded.

I was surprised I needed to replace the original so quickly, but apparently anything over one year is gravy.

I did check their site. Like OWC, they don't carry batteries, as far as I can see, for MacBook or MacBook Pros. It's mystifying.
And since names I recognize -- BTI and Newer -- don't carry aftermarket batteries for the Intel laptops, it made me suspicious of the companies that do provide non-Apple batteries.

It's puzzling. I've bought replacement batteries from Newer in the past and been happy with them. I don't know why they wouldn't be offering replacements for newer models.
I see that FastMac is offering replacements somewhat cheaper than Apple original equipment. I've not dealt with FastMac in the past but if I were in the market for a replacement battery for one of my Macs I'd probably order from them. I might regret it but from what I can tell it's likely to be worth the price.

I see that FastMac is offering replacements somewhat cheaper than Apple original equipment. =A0I've not dealt with FastMac in the past but if I were in the market for a replacement battery for one of my Macs I'd probably order from them. =A0I might regret it but from what I can tell it's likely to be worth the price.

That web site doesn't appear to exist, and if it used to, I've never heard of them. I've ordered replacement PowerBook and iBook batteries from Newer Tech (<http://www.newertech.com/products/laptop.php>, and that one exists) and found them to be excellent.

I ordered a FastMac replacement battery months ago, and was told they are expecting a 2-6 months delay on their TruePower batteries, because they are currently shifting production over to U.S. soil.

As you can see, their batteries have soem interesting technology in them, and it seems you get more "bang for your buck". While they've offered twice so far to sell me an Apple battery for the same price while they are out of stock, I'm doing my best to wait it out so I can get a TruePower battery. : )

I bought an Apple battery. But I'll be interested in your experience with the FastMac.
I haven't paid that much attention to the roles of the various frequent posters on the group, but I hope everything works out OK for you. It's a scary time for so many people.
