My power has just gone down *again* (third time this week) and I've finally decided it's time to get myself a UPS.
Unfortunately for me, I know nothing about UPS's so can anyone recommend something that would support two computers for a minute or so?
TIA

Anything with APC written on the front (apart from in pen) would be a good choice!

APC are the ones to go for if you can afford them. I have a Belkin Universal 1200VA here, and that seems to be working fine for the last six months or so. The Belkin has the benefit of using plain 13amp plug sockets, whereas others tend to use the Bulgin type (kettle leads).

Belkin are great - in winter.
Mine (Belkin Universal 1200VA) caught fire in my office and took down a (then) stupidly expensive computer and everything plugged into the UPS.
Won't touch anything but APC.

Yeah, I heard of others too, but doing some searching with Google also finds catching fire incidents with APC units too.
Trouble is the APC units are double the price.

I got my APCs (1400VA 2u rackmountables with new batteries) off eBay for a bit under £80 each inc p&p. Seller is "ups-trader" and he's ever so helpful.

Aye, they're coming down. When I got mine the APC 1000VA models were about £120, the Belkin was about £70.

Living out here has it's advantages - aside from the flaky power of course

I got a black USB APC 1000 to replace my old serial one for under £80 with new batteries too, also from ebay (ups-warehouse) in 2005. It isn't as vital as it used to be since I moved to the town from the country, but it is still nice to have.
