I have a 867mhz G4 Powerbook that after installing Tiger won't shutdown (or restart). I've removed everything I can (3rd party stuff), repaired permissions, Cocktailed, Tiger Cache Cleaned, Preferential Treatment, removing certian pref panes, nothing seems to work. Other than that, the computer hasn't crashed on me at all during use. :-) Here's what the Console says:
FSResolveAliasWithMountFlags returned err = -35
I've found reference to err = -43, but nothing about -35.
Any ideas? I performed a "normal" upgrade to Panther, not an archive and install. Should I try an archive and install?
Help!

You should always do an archive and install. I can't guarantee that it will fix this problem, but it's always a better idea. m.

I had *exactly* the same problem as Tina after doing a basic upgrade of Tiger. Everything worked fine except that the Mac ( a G4 Cube) would not shut down. No idea what caused this, I've made no effort to find out. Luckily I had cloned the original, pre-Tiger system to an external HD so I could easily revert to Jaguar. I then installed Tiger again, this time using Archive and install with User settings preserved, and everything is working fine now. I'm not sure if an Archive and install is still possible once you've already upgraded to Tiger. Having a bootable backup of my Jaguar HD saved my life... but you may not be so lucky...

have you any firewire disks attached? I had this problem due to old drivers on my discs- went away when I disconnected them, and then updated drivers. It's mentioned on the macfixit web-site.
