Normally, we leave our computers on and sleep them. I borrowed my daughter's keyboard yesterday so I turned off her iMac (the now discontinued 17" model) we bought last June. Today, when I reconnected the keyboard and attempted to turn on her iMac, nothing happened when I pressed the power button on the back. I tried several times and nothing happened. At first I thought it was dead.
Then I noticed that the back was hot--- the quadrant right above the power button. I unplugged the unit. It cooled off and I was able to start it again. It took maybe three times as long to start up as it used to. After running it for ten minutes, I shut it down again and, upon returning one hour later, it was hot again! After unplugging it from the wall socket, it has again cooled. I'd appreciate any ideas about what might be going on and how to take up this problem with Apple Care. Thanks.

It sounds like some defect in the power supply.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicion.
