sorry for the melodrama, but when i tried to boot up my G4 dual-processor tower it was almost as if it started up in sleep mode then crashed. the monitor screen never even came up or illuminated. i tried force reboot, unplugging the power, rebooting with extensions off, rebooting from the system software CD (still on OS 9.0.4) and still nothing. it sounds the start-up chime like everything's fine... then kaput. the power lights for both the tower and the monitor are illuminated, however. anyone have any insight?

thanks, jeff

Did you try to boot the diagnostic disk that came with it? If not, give it a try. While it's not the best thing in the world, it could help you track down the source of the problem. At least if it will boot from CD, you have some hope of self-diagnosis...

Other things to think about: reset NVRAM, reset PMU. See Apple's site for instructions (but read the pages carefully before doing this).
