My 12" iBook 700 has suddenly stopped going to sleep unless 'made' to from the menu.

This started happening after I ran "Software Update" last (about 4 weeks ago).

Now it has stopped going to sleep when I shut the lid/screen down.

Anyone else had this problem? Is it a glitch or have I got a problem for the techs?

And before the suggestion is made; I have just checked the Energy Saver control panel to check that that was not reset by the update.

When was the last time you restart the computer? Mine occasionally stops going to sleep due to something running. Restarting seems to clear it. Actually logging off clears it to.

Every day, restarting doesn't solve the problem. I always shut down when I don't expect to use it again that day.

try this

  1. if u have OS X10.2 a. boot off using OS X CD b. click on the installer beside the blue apple c. select open disc utility d. on the left hand side select your Macintosh HD not the media itself e. on the right hand side select first aid f. click on the repair disc.....if u see any errors try to run it 2 times.. g. if it is not repaired... back up format and restore h. quit disc utility i. quit installer and restart

  2. once you are booted up a. goto your utilities folder b. open disc utility c. select the Macintosh HD d. on the right side, select first aid e. select repaid disc PERMISSIONS f. keep running this till all permissions repaired

  3. test to see if it will sleep

  4. if fails, create a new user and test. if it still fails

  5. you have to options a. archive and install... it may be that the system is mucking up b. it can also be a hardware issue.
