iBook (OS X) asks for password twice after waking

I enter it the first time and the screen flickers and goes immediately back to the password screen. I know I'm entering the correct password.

Occasionally after entering my password, it goes straight back to sleep, and I have to hit the power button to wake it again.

For info: My iBook is only 6-8 weeks old, and it does this whilst the charger is connected, but does't seem to be affected when running on batteries.

Also, the screen brightness on the display preferences page seems to occasionally reset back to the lowest setting after using the battery and then connecting the charger. - Even after only using it on batteries (with a full charge) for a short period of time.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm a new switcher, so maybe I'm missing something obvious?

I'd call Apple. You're still within the free 90 day phone support, and the situation is a bit odd, IMO. It could be diagnosed with more information, but I'm lazy enough that I'd just as soon let Apple do the work (well, and you, of course).

Note that Applecare (available from resellers, sometimes more cheaply than from Apple) is recommended by many here for portable machines. Not only does it extend your warrantee coverage to 3 years, it includes free phone support for that entire time. It's worth considering seriously, at any rate. HTH

Thanks for the advise, I don't know why I never thought about calling apple :) I guess it's because I'm so used to home built PCs that have no support.

Many thanks. Bry

Same problem here, with a 15" Powerbook G4 (1.5GHz) and OS X 10.4.3... It seems just to happen when it's running on battery power.
