iMac G5 and sleep mode

It will go to sleep if I tell it to go to sleep manually, but it won't go to sleep automatically.

I would try resetting the SMU. This involves shutting down, pulling out the power cord, opening the back, and pushing (once) the lower of the two tiny buttons you'll see at about the middle of the computer. m.

I did this for a problem with "sleep" crashing my iMac G5. did no good.
This was just one of the "solutions" provided by the Apple help line (talking to a real person) that did not help.

After problems with the sleep function on two Macs (running everything from 10.1.5 to 10.3.5), i have concluded that "sleep" is a hopelessly screwed up function and do not use it any longer.

May try it again after up-grading to 10.4.x, giving it one more chance.

What is the mod date on this 'objects.nib' file, and does anyone know why nibtool won't open it?

A trace shows nibtool does an lstat() on objects.nib, receives success, then says it can't open it. (It did not issue an open.)
