A friend of mine has an imac 400mgh, 312 ram, OS.9.1, and often it will not wake from sleep. Screen stays black, must push forced restart button on the side, or sometimes even unplug and replug. I have read that some imacs have a faulty board, or power supply, or that the energy saver could be the problem. Ideas appreciated.

DS My iMac 400 DV with 64mb ram, OS 9.1 did the same thing. I, having lots of crappy shareware and other junk on my computer did a full restore, after saving all my stuff to disk of course, and haven't had this problem. This may not be the best solution for your friend, but I would recommend he use the trail of Extension Overload and weed out any uneeded extensions from either shareware or Apple's extras.
