Hi,
I just got a new 12 inch PowerBook and when it awakes from sleep the CD-ROM drive makes weird noises like it's checking to see if a CD is in the drive. It makes 2 noises each about a second each.
Is that normal?
thanks
Jeff

I hope so, 'cause mine does exactly the same thing.

Ask Apple to add a feature where the superdrive/combodrive remembers whether a disk was inserted before the computer went to sleep?
Yeah, my 12" PowerBook does the same thing.
I suspect that the drive is actualy powered down completely and it is just doing a power on self test when the computer wakes up.
One Emacs to rule them all. One Emacs to find them,
One Emacs to take commands and to the keystrokes bind them,
All other programming languages wish they were Lisp.

And what happens if someone slides one in while it's asleep ? No, as well as checking to see if there's one there it's also checking the mechanism that moves the laser. It's working correctly. Don't worry about it.
