Message #1 - Posted 2006/12/30 - vix

when i put my macbook to sleep the macbook closes my internet connection, so anything i was downloading would stop. Is there a way of putting your macbook to sleep but not close close the internet connection?

No. This applies to all computers; when they're asleep, they're asleep.

No. When the machine is sleeping, it's pretty much off, except that it maintains the contents of RAM. The processor isn't even active, which would make it rather hard for it to maintain a network connection....

In the Energy Saver preference pane, you can set the machine to initially only turn off its screen, which will leave your Internet connection active. Or you can manually turn off your screen's backlight by turning the brightness all the way down. (At least, this works on other Mac models; I haven't tried it on a MacBook.)

When your computer is asleep, all it does is sit there and wait to be woken up. A sleeping computer is more like one that's off than one that's on. So no, you cannot expect it to do anything while asleep.

Um, no. That's kind of like saying "I shut off the light switch and it got dark. How can I make it not get dark when I shut off the light switch?" The answer is, don't shut off the light switch.
