May I express my thanks to Jolly Roger, Tacit, Matt Neuburg, and Paul Nevai.

You all have been very helpful in pointing me toward a resolution of the problem with my G5 failing to shut down or restart normally.

My drive is the one that came with the G5 but some months ago I had installed Speed Tools that came with another drive that I purchased from OWC awhile back. It may be that it is an old version that is incompatible with Tiger?

In any case, after some difficulty finding all the åpiecesĄ of the program and deleting them, my drive now shuts down and restarts properly.

Generally, I leave my G5 on 24/7 so I seldom have occasion to do a shutdown. On the few occasions that I had problems earlier this spring, I just assumed it was an error of some sort that caused it. I was always able to turn it off and restart manually and just didnĄt take the time to check it out until last week.

While I sometimes enjoy reading the mostly irrelevant banter that goes on between some who post here regularly, I must say that I believe my experience here during the past few days is really what the group is all about.

So thank you all for sharing your wisdom and insights with me!
