Sleep keeps waking up? Assist?

Message #1 - Posted 2001/12/14 - Gib Fulton

Newly installed OS 10.1 from the box. After a couple of "FUCTUPs" the sleep no longer is effective. It will sleep then withing 20 seconds will wake from the DVD/CD Drive. I have removed all media from the drive as well as the ZIP drive, yet it still misbehaves. This is forcing me to power down when leaving my machine for any period of time.

I cannot use a screen saver as when the drive wakes, the screen does also.

Am running a G4/400(yikes) 640mbRAM, 13gb (Maxtor) & 30gb (WesternDigital( drives . The DVD was installed by Apple at purchase.

Any assist?

It may not be the DVD that is waking up the Mac. It may just be checking the DVD (and hard drives) when something else wakes it. Check that you do not have it set in Energy Saver to wake up for network or modem activity.

Thanks for the reply. However, the options you refer to in the preference panel are nonexistant. I have the time to sleep if inactive set at 10mins and the monitor set to 5mins. I have tried various setting all to the same result. Not pleased!
