sleeps like a baby

My cute as hell new ibook is especially cute when its asleep, trouble is it goes to sleep as soon as it boots. This is an especially madenning problem because it is intermittent, only occuring in several days or even a couple of weeks. Then it will not stay awake no matter how many times I turn off extensions, rebuild, zap pram, start from software install disk. This is among wierd ass other intermittent problems like sometimes the startup chime sounds, sometimes not. Sometimes the machine holds the date and time, sometimes not. My attempt to use OSX was riddled with USB problems and other random wierd occurances. If there are any similar experiences out there with the cute new ibook, I would like to learn from them.

I don't know if it would help you, but have you tried setting Energy Saver to never go to sleep automatically?

I've seen Macs do that when the battery was running out. Is your machine charged, or even plugged in to the ac?

If it is you could try resetting the power manager, you need a sharp object to press the small button just above the headphone socket.

If that doesn't work you may need to give Apple a ring.

Apple portables will automatically sleep when the battery gets too low. They will even shut down in some situations.

We produce a free extension that creates detailed logs of energy and power management events. These events include the emergency sleep and shut downs mentioned above.

You can download a copy of Sleep Monitor from http://www.dssw.co.uk.

Hope this helps!

It's broken. Contact Apple and send it to them for repair.

Simon.
